Welcome to Near River
our organic market farm, a smallholding on the NSW Mid North Coast that we have created out of our passion for nutrient dense foods and ethical farming. This enables us to supply the highest quality produce to our community and champion the importance of local food.
We grow ethical pasture raised free range pork and chickens, superb organic fed, free range eggs, and a variety of traditional, field grown seasonal vegetables, garlic and citrus. Our range of preserves and condiments created from our produce have won numerous awards, and we hold a number of unique farm events throughout the year.
Meals in the Fields and Breakfast in the Beds are ‘pop-up’ dining experiences, while most weeks we hold Sundays at Near River which are more casual affairs enabling our community to come and enjoy Near River and participate in farming activities.
What is important to us
is for people to reconnect with the food they eat, how it is produced and who produces it, and the impact that the quality that that food has on their health, the health of society and the health of the environment.
We left Sydney in the spring of 2007 to commence this journey, fulfilling a long held dream to grow organic foods. With a background in horticulture and marketing, us two city slickers jumped in, and we are happy to say the journey continues to this day.
Where to find us
You can find us each Saturday at our stall at Orange Grove Organic Food Markets in Leichhardt from 8.00am until 1.00pm. Then on most Sundays you can visit us at The Farmacy farm shop here at Near River from 2.00 till 5.00pm.
In Port Macquarie you will find our produce on the menu at The Corner Restaurant, while Gourmand Ingredients in Short Street stocks our eggs, salad mixes, bacon, ham and preserves, and Bent on Food in Wingham has our pork on their lunch and dinner menus. In Sydney, Egg of the Universe in Rozelle and Sprout Wholefoods in Naremburn use our produce regularly.
